DraftKings 7/21/2014

Dug here and if I still have readers after yesterday's dismal lineup, I would like to apologize. Hopefully you have yet to trust me with your daily gambling needs and we can start over. Now that the pressure of maintaining a win streak is over, I hope to improve upon my picks with today's lineup.

As previously stated, we went 0-for-3 yesterday (OUCH!). And no, it didn't end out that. Last place in both three man leagues and a good old fashion "take me to the shed so Momma don't see it" butt whoopin'. Yes, Griede17 beat me by a whopping 51 points. But today is a new day, and you have to play the hand that you are dealt.

If anything can be taken from yesterday, I think it serves as a valuable learning experience: anything can happen when it comes to gambling. Rule #1: Don't bet more than you are afraid to lose. Luckily, we weren't in too deep. I had $8 in play, and given that we were up about $35 from the previous two days, $8 will not hurt. Rule #2: Don't get in too deep. Just because you end a day in the red, don't try to make it up in one day. When you try this method, you are usually rushed and not making good decisions. Rule #3: Relax, tomorrow is another day. Even at small amounts on money like we have in play, is this not the most fun you can buy with $5?

Today's Lineups:

P Roenis Elias vs NYM $7,400
In the past three week, Elias is 0-2 with an astronomical ERA of 11.88. Why would you draft him Dug? Because the Mets strike out at a 25% rate against left handed pitching. Elias is striking out 7.65 per 9 innings. Look for the young lefty to get plenty of run support, and also have a good game.

P Justin Verlander at Arizona $6,800
I was very surprised to find Verlander this cheap. The Diamondbacks aren't necessarily a powerhouse offense, so hopefully Verlander can get his numbers back down to normal.

C Brian McCann vs Texas $3,700
Lefty vs Righty in Yankee Stadium.

1B Jose Abreu vs Kansas City $5,200
The rookie sensation has had difficulty against the Royals this year (4/22). Taking a chance on this one, not gonna lie.

2B Martin Prado vs Detroit $4,000
Lineup filler.

3B Anthony Rendon at Colorado $4,600
You could probably take any right-handed hitter in Washington's lineup and expect success tonight.

SS Jimmy Rollins vs San Fran $4,300
Ryan Vogelsong is horrid on the road. Throw a top of the order guy like Rollins in and expect results.

OF Jay Bruce at Milwaukee $4,400
Wily Peralta has owned the Reds in recent matchups. I'm picking Bruce because 1) you can only be lucky so much, and 2) Go Reds!

OF Jayson Werth at Colorado $5,000
See Anthony Rendon

OF Brett Gardner vs Texas
Top of the line up guy. Doesn't hurt that he has a good lefty vs righty matchup against an unproven pitcher.

This is my lineup I will be using today. Again, and as always, it's not set in stone. Should it change, I will update this post. If you are some poor soul who mirrors my lineup, best of luck. We're both going to need it!

Always,
Dug...

Update:
Brian McCann and Jay Bruce aren't in the lineups tonight. I have swamped them out with Salvador Perez and Skip Schumaker.
