Hurry Up and Get Designated Hitters in the National League

The time is now! I want to see designated hitters in the National League. The thought of taking the pitchers out of the batter's box has been a debate over the last few years, but without the approval of the owners of National League teams, this dream will never happen.
Most pitchers are awful at the plate.

Cue the YouTube videos!

Bartolo Colon really cannot get his head around swinging

Santiago Castilla really tries hard at this at-bat

In the defense of some of my colleagues (AKA Corbett), there is something special about seeing pitchers hitting homeruns

The National League has won the World Series 5 of the last 8 years, and I think the use and loss of the DH during the playoffs had something to do with it.

Teams in the American League spend up to 14-million dollars a year on a player (David Ortiz) to be their DH, and during half of the World Series, those players will either ride the bench, or play a position they are not used to playing during the season. Just ask the Texas Rangers how great is was to have Vladimir Guerrero in right field during the 2010 World Series against the San Fransisco Giants.

DH's can extend careers past their usual expiration date. Just look at Vladimir Guerrero, Albert Pujols, Alfonso Soriano, David Ortiz, Adam Dunn. These guys more than likely could not stay on a MLB roster because of their age and lack of defensive ability. However, their bats can still be an asset to teams later into their careers.

And finally, in a time where the game is starting to lose viewership, and where some complain the game is too boring, WHY WOULD YOU LIMIT OFFENSIVE CAPABILITY?! Offense sells no matter who tells you the opposite, and this is true in all sports. Teams who hit more homeruns sell. Teams who throw more touchdowns sell. Teams who dunk more, and shoot long range 3-pointers sell. Teams who score more goals sell. Defense may win championships, but they do not put butts in seats, and the MLB is having a hard time doing just that. Why limit how much profit you could make when your league is hurting?

I hope to see the DH in the National League soon, and with a new commissioner we could see a push to have the position added to National League rosters.
