Game 7: Red Sox - Two Innings, One Betts

What a great day for some baseball! I think I've decided that the 3:05 start times might be my favorite. I get to polish off the work day while listening to the start of the game. I get to workout (when I work out) and even cook supper during the game. That's the life. However, this game in particular was perfect! Red Sox/Nationals game 1. It actually kind of reminded me of the Taxslayer Bowl this year with Tennessee and Iowa. The final score doesn't really reflect the one-sideness of the game.

The Red Sox couldn't have asked for a better first two innings! Or a better Opening Day at Fenway!!

Let's talk about Mookie Betts alone.

After leaping above the wall to rob Bryce Harper of his home run, and seemingly break all of the bones in his torso, Mookie gets on base. Not too impressive, but then Big Papi steps up to the plate, winks at Betts, Mookie takes off for second and steals it. BUT WAIT! The ball was fumbled out and he stands up and steals third!! How can his day get any better?!? What's that? A home-run? He hit a home-run after that?!?! Holy mother of Moses, a three run blast over the fence for Mookie Betts and his 2nd of the season! 4-0 Red Sox in the second inning. Well this couch analyst has to say it if no one else will. Mookie Betts is taking the phenom out of phenomenal and having his name engraved on it!

Now on to Mike Napoli. With all of the player movement after the World Series in 2013, Napoli could actually be considered a seasoned vet for Boston. He has proved valuable day in and day out for the Sox and yesterday was no exception. First base was more than covered with every stretch and saved miscue from other players. He has such awareness of the plate that he can keep one foot on base and almost jump with the rest of his body to make play after play.

This game was kinda off as far as on base percentage goes. Only two strike-outs in the whole game. (Ironically they were given to the two fore mentioned players: Betts and Napoli) Our pitching wasn't perfect but I guess we are still trying to find our depth, and with Uehara off the DL maybe that can change. The team also managed to not strand more players than they had hits this game too which is a plus.

Maybe they were just excited about their first trip back home. Maybe is what the Super Bowl champs in the house. Maybe it was just pride trying to keep Boston looking strong after Tom Brady's terrible first pitch. Either way, we shut the lights off with the Green Monster reading 9-4. Red Sox.

It's great to be home.
