Guardians of the Galaxy: Is This the Movie of the Summer?

The short answer is yes! This movie was everything I wanted from a superhero movie and then some. Star Lord has quickly became one of my favorite super hero. We'll start with him.

Star-Lord is such a badass

Most Marvel superheroes have some gadget, or inside magic that makes them super. Star-Lord has a quite awesome mask, a booster, and a few badass mixtapes. No super hammer, no military injection, no genetic mutation. Chris Pratt was the perfect choice to play this part. Star-Lord is a sarcastic, intelligent, douche bag, badass and Chris Pratt is perfect! (no offense).





Gamora, the green-skinned assassin, is a character who does a great job of just being a character. Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana, did her job as an actor to portray Gamora as an assassin who wanted to save the galaxy. Gamora did not have any flair or real personality, and maybe that's how James Gunn and folks wanted it. I just didn't really get much out of her. Zoe Saldana is a great actress in other films. Gamora did her enough to keep the movie going.

Drax was the assassins that wants you to know he's there

Drax the Destroyer and Gamora's banter throughout the movie was quite comical. Drax is played by wrestler Dave Bautista and they used him in the best kind of the way. Bautista has not been in many films compared to the others in this movie, but they used his talents in the correct way. Drax talks small amounts, but has insightful and high vocabulary lines, and used his strength to do most of his talking. Two things this wrestler is good at.

I am Groot! Groot was the most unique character to date in the Marvel universe. Vin Diesel loaned his voice to the organic plant. Groot is the muscle and has one of the actual funny moments in the movie. I say moments because he has only three words in the whole movie, but I am Groot has many meanings.

He's not a raccoon.

Rocket is a self-named thug who runs around with Groot. He says he is not a raccoon, but his features would speak otherwise. A fantastic character with a sharp-tongue and quick mind, Rocket is a definite pleasure for the audience. Rocket is voiced by Bradley Cooper, but most of the time you couldn't tell it was him, meaning Bradley Cooper could become a huge voice actor soon. Rocket is a huge part to the success of this movie.




All in all, this was one, if not the, best superhero movies made to date. This also has been one of my recent favorite movies. The action was well put together, both hand-to-hand combat as well as aircraft combat. The movie was filled with comedic moments start to finish. The story seemed as though it ran fluid with minimal plot holes, if any. I did not seem any other than a few cracked windshields that I thought would make people stop breathing or an anti-gravity machine that also did not seem to work correctly despite some broken glass in a windshield. But at this point we are just picking hairs. Guardians of the Galaxy is a must-watch movie and a movie you can expect to enjoy.
